As the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, recently announced that grade seven and grade 12 learners will be able to return to schools come 1 June, the same risk-prevention priorities apply.

University of Pretoria has appointed executive director of faculty and senior lecturer Dr Morris Mthombeni as interim dean of the Gordon Institute of Business Science (Gibs). He will commence the role on 1 July 2020. Mthombeni will fulfil this role until such time that a permanent dean is appointed following an extensive and exhaustive process by the University of Pretoria. In the meantime, he will work with Professor Nicola Kleyn, the outgoing dean, who steps down at the end of June for a post at the Rotterdam School of Management, in the Netherlands, to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Amidst the unprecedented times of the global pandemic, the Adopt-a-School Foundation, a partner entity of the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, continues to work hard at improving education in South Africa. In May 2020, the foundation entered into an exciting partnership with ChairClub to provide school chairs in a 'Buy One, Get One' campaign. ChairClub, a Proudly South African and local South African chair manufacturer, partnered with the foundation in a campaign to support disadvantaged schools in rural and urban communities with comfortable world-class school chairs. Throughout 2020, for every office chair sale, ChairClub will donate a locally-manufactured school chair to schools across the country.
