It sounds almost too good to be true to get something for free that would normally fetch high consulting fees - until one realises that it was the exact, practical purpose of the remarkable project that the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (Saica) under the banner of its Enterprise Development (Saica ED) entity, together with the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of Southern Africa (Abasa), Fetola and FNB have put together under the Phila Sizwe banner. No less than 298 Saica professionals have volunteered to be part of the solution to tackle some of the challenges faced by SMMEs in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic and the resultant economic hardship. To date, the volunteer mentors have already helped more than 300 SMMEs. Here's how the project works.
