Education International is deeply saddened by the loss of our great colleague, Emanuel Fatoma, who passed on Monday, the 6th of July 2020 in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Emanuel Fatoma will be remembered as a great teacher and education advocate who incessantly pursued social justice for all, particularly for the teaching fraternity.

The turmoil in the South African education system in the past few weeks stirred a saying of 'the mistake of a doctor kills one person, but that of a teacher kills the entire generation'. This quote refers to the shortcomings of the system within which the teacher practises their craft. This is the collective impact of the decisions and actions of those running educational institutions, practitioners, governing bodies, parents and other influential members of society.
